"One of electronic music's most enigmatic artists, Ekkehard Ehlers teams up with percussionist Paul Wirkus for a selection of freeform avant-garde compositions that cross-pollinate the building blocks of jazz (you'll hear double bass from Werner Dafeldecker and clarinet from Kai Fagaaschinski) with extreme and often highly adventurous electronic treatments. 'Okno' fizzes with shambolic guitar modulations and creaking amplified textures, 'Wiem' supplies warm floating tremolo tones in a far more sedate, even blissful mode, while a piece like 'Ziemia' is all about intricately spun discord and dramatic, digitally enhanced percussion. None of this presents an easy listen, but its boundlessly explorotory nature makes it enthralling throughout. The vicious double bass dissections of 'Guma' with its bowed, then hacked at string drones offer up a particular highlight, and the album closer 'Ruchy' delivers a noisy crescendo, offering a parallel to the caustic splurge of early Pita records.
