"This second full-length from Bretschneider (Komet) for Mille Plateaux, comes to us with much anticipation following his breathtaking debut 'Rand'. Bretschneider has always somehow managed to set himself apart from the Clicks and Cuts bratpack that have become so elevated in stature over the last couple of years. The credentials of the sounds utilised here do remain very much within the realm of Microscopic sounds and textures, but Bretschneiders work focuses on a much more emotive element...sidestepping excursions into territory which is wholly academic or mathematical. There is so much depth here...basslines that have been carefully considured, sitting underneath sound structures and wrapping them up in a blanket of texture and warmth. Take, for example, the haunting beauty of 'Silk'...the deepest of bass structures and carefully considered clicks...so far so predictable....until the lushest slivers of organic melody come in....this is a study in beauty and form...never intending to be conceived as academic or difficult, its accessability shines through its desire to evoke warmth. Comparisons with the likes of SND are, without doubt, warranted, but Bretschneider's focus lies elsewhere...Not so much focused on groove and rhythm, instead illustrating by example that even the most reduced of sounds can go straight to the bottom of your stomach and make you think of warm rays of sunshine.
